April 19th, 2021

Stephen Shore was at one point diagnosed with "Atypical Development and strong autistic tendencies" and was told he was “too sick” for outpatient treatment, and recommended for institutionalization.  He was nonverbal until the age of four, but with the support provided by his family and teachers, he is now a professor at Adelphi University and researches how to match the best practice to the needs of autistic people. He is internationally renowned for his consultations, presentations, and writings, with his most recent book titled College for Students with Disabilities. Dr. Shore is a current board member of Autism Speaks and President Emeritus of the Asperger’s Association of New England. He is also an advisory board member of the Autism Society and serves on boards of several other autism related organizations.
