The challenge

Tribe Innovation worked with W&M Reves Center to derive the problem statement: How might we make international student orientation workshops more engaging?

International students participate in an additional orientation as incoming students to help them adjust to American life. This is often an overwhelming process, and by the third day of orientation, students appear to disengage. During the workshop, facilitators took participants through the create phase of design thinking which included brainstorming, organizing, converging, and prototyping.

The Results

This culminated into 103 ideas and 12 different prototypes under three core ideas. These ideas included hosting a team-based competition, incorporating peer-to-peer discussion during summer workshops, and having upperclassmen international students leading orientation.
